This role is for a driven and results-oriented lawyer to join our growing family law practice. You will be responsible for managing a diverse caseload of family law matters.
Key Responsibilities:
Family Law:
Client Management:
Conduct initial client consultations and provide comprehensive legal advice.
Manage client expectations effectively, providing regular updates and maintaining open communication.
Build and maintain strong, long-term client relationships.
Handle sensitive matters with empathy, discretion, and professionalism.
Case Management:
Manage all aspects of various legal matters including Family Law, Criminal Law, Commercial Law, Estates and Intervention Orders independently.
Draft and file court documents (e.g., applications, affidavits, submissions) accurately and efficiently.
Prepare for and attend court hearings, mediations, arbitrations, and trials.
Conduct legal research and analysis to support case strategy.
Negotiate settlements effectively and advocate for clients' best interests.
Prepare appropriate cost agreements, provide invoices regularly, monitor billables, and regularly update cost agreements (as required).
Business Development:
Actively participate in business development activities, including drafting articles, networking and client referrals.
Meet or exceed quarterly client acquisition targets.
General:
Mobility:
Be prepared to travel as required for local court appearances and meet with clients.
Legal Excellence:
Stay current with legal developments and best practices in relevant legal fields.
Adhere to all professional and ethical standards.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date case files and client records.
Collaborate effectively with colleagues, paralegals, and other professionals.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):
Client Satisfaction:
Achieve and maintain a client satisfaction rating of 90% or higher.
Seek client feedback and reviews after matter concludes
Client Retention:
Achieve and maintain a client retention rate of 85% or higher.
Upsell and on-sell further legal opportunities
Case Progression:
Resolve 80% of matters within 6-12 months of engagement.
Plan, track and meet progression tasks, timings and commitments with clients
Client Communication Frequency: Ensure that you provide regular updates and manages expectations. Define a standard communication schedule. Track frequency of client contact and ensure it meets the schedule.
Billable Hours:
Meet or exceed monthly billable hour targets as defined by Zanier Legal Services.
Realisation Rate: Measure the percentage of billable hours invoiced and collected. Track difference between billable hours recorded and invoice value.
Average Billing Rate: Track the hourly rate charged to clients. Monitor average rate for different services. Ensure rates are competitive and aligned with service value and quotes.
Business Development:
Acquire a minimum of 1 new client per month.
Client Conversion Rate: Measure the percentage of new lead sources that lead to inquiries and client conversions.
Referral Source Tracking: Identify sources of new clients (referrals, marketing, networking).
Case Quality:
Maintain a zero-error rate in all legal documentation.
Ensure timely and accurate filing of all court documents.
Qualifications & Experience:
Current and valid practising admission to the Supreme Court of Victoria and High Court of Australia
Minimum 3+ years of post-admission experience
Exposure to practice areas such as Family Law, Wills & Power of Attorney, Commercial Law, Probate, Part IV Applications and Criminal law are desirable.
Keen attention to detail and excellent research and analytical skills.
Must have unrestricted license to practice law in Australia

Organisation & Time Management: Highly organised and efficient with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities effectively.
Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in legal research databases, Smokeball case management software, and Microsoft Office Suite.
Independence: Ability to work independently, utilising professionalism and initiative to effectively case manager and progress matters with minimal, if any, managerial direction.
Teamwork: Strong teamwork and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively with colleagues and other professionals.
Ethical Conduct: Adherence to the highest ethical and professional standards.
