About the Barkly Region
The Barkly Region covers more than 320,000 km2 stretching from the old Telegraph Station at Barrow Creek in the south to the historical droving township of Newcastle Waters in the north. Located approximately 1000km south of Darwin and 500km north of Alice Springs. Tennant Creek has a population of 3,252 and is the largest town in the region.

Learn about the local cultural at Nyinkka Nyunyu Art and Culture Centre, spend the day kayaking at Tingkkarli (Lake Mary Ann), or take a walk around the peculiar rock formations of Karlu Karlu (Devils Marbles) or use your leisure time from work and take a 4WD adventure into the Davenport Ranges. Facilities
Tennant Creek has a well-stocked IGA and several other specialist retail businesses along with a number of cafes, pubs and clubs. Along with a private medical centre the Barkly region’s health needs are met with a 20-bed hospital located in Tennant Creek. Both a primary school and high school are located in Tennant Creek along with a new and modern Youth Centre.

The estimated population of the Barkly Regional Council is 6,316 spread over 7 communities (2 regional towns and 5 remote communities). About the Role
Are you a motivated leader ready to make a lasting impact in one of Australia's most unique regions? Barkly Regional Council is seeking a Council Services Manager to lead community and operational services in Tennant Creek — the heart of the Barkly.
This pivotal role will see you manage a dynamic team to deliver high-quality Council services and programs, ensuring Tennant Creek is a well-maintained, thriving, and healthy community.
The Essentials
• Diploma level qualification and/or trade qualification, and/or experience in a related field.
• Strong interpersonal skills with excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
• Proven facilitation, mediation, negotiation, and leadership skills, with the ability to engage effectively across all staff levels in a cross-cultural environment.
• Demonstrated experience in managing diverse teams, with the ability to mentor, develop, support, and motivate staff in a dynamic and evolving work environment.
• Sound understanding of Human Resource Management principles and workplace policies.
• Proven ability to implement Municipal Services and community programs within culturally diverse settings.
• Ability to interpret and apply Local Government legislation, regulations, and relevant policies.
• Demonstrated capacity to lead and develop a high-performing, multidisciplinary team.
• Driver’s Licence.
• Current National Police Criminal History Check.
• Current Working with Children Clearance (Ochre Card – Northern Territory).
• CPCWHS1001 Work Safely in the Construction Industry (White Card).
About You
• You have excellent people management skills and mentoring skills.
• You demonstrate the ability to work effectively in culturally diverse and remote settings, including understanding of Aboriginal culture and community structures.
• You are willing and able to travel within the Barkly region, including overnight stays as required.
The Finer Details
• Full-Time Permanent position paying Above EBA Award Classification of the Barkly Regional Council Enterprise Agreement 2023.
• Annual Salary of $120,459.76 per annum ($4,633.07 gross per fortnight).
• 11.5% Superannuation.
• Annual Leave of 6 weeks paid with 17.5% Leave Loading.
