Located at Pickertaramoor on Melville Island, Tiwi College is an exciting and dynamic secondary boarding school initiated and governed by the Tiwi people to provide quality education for young Tiwi.

Melville Island, part of the Tiwi Islands, lies in the eastern Timor Sea, off the coast of the Northern Territory, Australia. It is west of the Cobourg Peninsula in Arnhem Land and north of Darwin, with a tropical climate. As a result, the tropical wilderness and secluded beaches are readily accessible, with most staff enjoying weekend camping and fishing.

About the Role

We are currently seeking an experienced Operations Manager to join our dedicated team. In this hands-on position, you will be responsible for the maintenance, oversight, and general property management of Tiwi College, ensuring the essential services and facilities are maintained to a high standard. Your duties will include supervising contractors, overseeing infrastructure, grounds, and utilities, and coordinating day-to-day maintenance operations to ensure a safe and functional environment for staff and students.

To succeed in this role, you should have a solid knowledge of property, facilities, and essential services management in a remote or institutional setting. Our ideal candidate will have strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and a proactive, solution-focused approach.

Key Responsibilities:

· Coordinate weekly with the Principal to prioritise and plan work.

· Maintain all essential services (power, water, sewage, waste, etc.) across the college.

· Provide hands-on repairs and maintenance across buildings, infrastructure, and grounds.

· Supervise contract workers and liaise with the Business Manager.

· Ensure building security and manage the master key system.

· Conduct regular inspections of buildings, air conditioners, electrical systems, and fire safety.

· Manage stock of maintenance supplies and schedule preventative maintenance.

· Participate in vehicle operations including barge runs and transport duties.

· Support student work experience programs related to maintenance and groundskeeping.

· Perform other duties as directed by the Principal.

Requirements:

· Certification from a vocational or trade school is preferred.

· A minimum of 2 years’ experience in a similar property or maintenance role.

· In-depth knowledge of general maintenance practices, essential services systems, and OH&S compliance.

· Strong attention to detail with an aptitude for problem-solving.

· Excellent communication and customer service skills.

· Experience living or working remotely will be highly regarded.

· A current driver’s licence is essential.

· A current NT Ochre Card is required.
