The Senior Aboriginal Practice Lead will work to ensure that participating First Nations children, young people and their families benefit from OzChild programs and services. Working with OzChild’s Teams, for the effective delivery of OzChild Services to First Nations Children, Young People and their Families /Kin /Carers, the Senior Aboriginal Practice Lead will contribute to the provision of culturally responsive services and a culturally safe working environment through consultation and engagement with OzChild staff, First Nations Peoples, stakeholders and relevant Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations. The role will also lead initiatives and activities that align with our strategic plan and commitment to self-determination of First Nations peoples. With a focus on stakeholder engagement and communication, this role ensures a project management framework is implemented to continuously support OzChild’s commitment.

The Senior Aboriginal Practice Lead has specialist knowledge and applies this in their decision making and the provision of expert advice to other areas of OzChild

In consultation with the Director National Aboriginal Practice and Partnerships

  • Actively develop and promote community networks and partnerships across all levels of State and Federal Child and Family Services, other government bodies and Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations.
  • You will be required to negotiate on culturally related matters both within OzChild and with stakeholders on behalf of OzChild.
  • You will support stakeholder engagement and project related activities to support OzChild's commitment to self-determination of First Nations people.

Skills and Experience

  • As a proud Aboriginal and or Torres Strait Islander person apply specialist cultural knowledge and expertise in a manner that enhances OzChild’s and Bridging Cultures Unit strategic goals.
  • Extensive knowledge of issues impacting on First Nations Children, Young People, their Families/Kin and communities, in contemporary society and an ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with them.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with individuals, families and communities from a strength-based, culturally responsive perspective.
  • Demonstrated ability to function independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Good communication and organisational skills.
  • Demonstrated network development skills.
  • Demonstrated current knowledge and skills in the health and welfare of children and young people. Knowledge of the Child Protection system, Out of Home Care, legislation, standards and practice.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply knowledge which is gained through qualifications and previous experience working with children, young people and their families / kin / carers.
  • Capacity to set priorities and monitor workflows in their area of responsibility.
  • Employees adhere to established work practices. However, they may be required to exercise initiative and judgment where practices and direction are not clearly defined.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite and email, and web-based information systems.
  • Able to access data through internal online portals , case management systems, and be able to utilise power point to create and present presentations

This role will be based in either Yarraville, Dandenong or Frankston, however some coaching/reflective practice will be required to be delivered in the Goulburn & Warrnambool areas up to 3 times a year.

Essential

• Tertiary qualifications in Social / Health Sciences, community development, Social Work or a related discipline or relevant work experience.
