About the position
Kate Chaney MP is seeking a Policy Adviser to support the Senior Adviser in delivering Kate’s key policy priorities and her Parliamentary contributions.
This is an exciting opportunity to join Kate’s team at the forefront of driving a new and more inclusive way of doing politics in Australia. This is an ideal role for someone wanting to develop their career in policy making.
The Policy Adviser will advise on legislation, committee inquiries and issues arising in the community, economy and media, in addition to managing stakeholder relations.
The position can be based in Floreat WA or Canberra ACT and will require occasional irregular work hours, particularly during parliamentary sitting weeks.
Our ideal candidate will:
Have a background in policy development, speech writing, research or parliamentary processes and procedure.
Have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal with outstanding attention to detail.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to gather and synthesise information on a broad range of policy areas under restrictive timelines.
Have experience in one or more key policy issues that align with the MP’s values and interests.
Be engaged and interested in the Federal political and media landscape.
Have the ability to work in a fast paced, high-pressure environment and demonstrate versatility in managing daily workload.
Employment conditions:
The position is offered under the Members of Parliament (Staff) Act 1984 and conditions are outlined in the Commonwealth Members of Parliament Staff Enterprise Agreement 2024-27.
A package between $86 500 - $109,000 (including salary and allowances) will be negotiated depending on experience and relevant skills.
In additional to the package, an employer superannuation contribution of 15.4% will be payable.
An initial probationary period of three months will apply and may be subject to extension.
