About NSW Ombudsman
The NSW Ombudsman is an independent and impartial watchdog. Our job is to make sure that agencies we watch over fulfill their functions properly and improve their delivery of services to the public.
We watch over most public sector and many private sector agencies and their staff. Our role is to make sure these agencies and their staff do their jobs properly, meeting their responsibilities to the community.
We help agencies within our jurisdiction to address problems with their performance. These problems may be uncovered by complaints from the public or by people who work for those agencies. Problems may also come to our attention through our work in scrutinising agency systems, overseeing investigations or reviewing the delivery of services.
Our work is guided by a range of legislation, including the Ombudsman Act 1974.
