Darwin Aquaculture Centre (DAC)
The Darwin Aquaculture Centre is located on Channel Island, 45kms from Darwin and 25kms from Palmerston. It is a leading aquaculture research and development facility in the Northern Territory. Established in 1997, the DAC focuses on sustainable aquaculture practices, supporting industry growth and Indigenous community engagement.
The Role
As the Senior Aquaculture Technician, you will lead technical support programs at the Darwin Aquaculture Centre (DAC), ensuring the delivery of stock enhancement, aquaculture research and industry development outcomes for the Northern Territory. Specifically, you will be the technical lead for fish stocking programs and finfish production and support general finfish activities and research projects underway at the DAC.
You’ll participate in a rotating on-call roster, and be available to work weekends, public holidays and irregular hours during peak periods.
About you
You’re a team player who brings reliability, initiative and strong technical skills. To be successful in this role you will have:
A relevant qualification awarded by an Australian institution, or equivalent, or relevant technical aquaculture experience.
Demonstrated experience in aquaculture production and ability to follow government procedures.
Proven ability to lead a team effectively, work within budget, and adhere to biosecurity guidelines with minimal supervision.
Demonstrated experience relevant to the role, such as plumbing, building and maintenance of aquaculture systems.
Confidence in own technical abilities and a proactive attitude towards learning new techniques and adapting to evolving aquaculture practices.
A current NT Drivers licence or the ability to obtain one within a reasonable time frame.
