UnionsWA is the state’s peak union body, representing 28 affiliated unions which have over 150,000 members in Western Australia. The Media Officer is responsible for developing and implementing communication strategies to enhance UnionsWA’s public image and engagement. This role involves managing media relations, creating content, and coordinating communication efforts across various platforms.
THE ROLE WILL:
Build and maintain strong relationships with media outlets, coordinate press releases, interviews, and press conferences.
Create and edit engaging content for newsletters, websites, social media, and multimedia platforms, ensuring alignment with brand messaging.
Manage and grow UnionsWA’s social media presence, including content scheduling, engagement, and performance analysis.
Develop and distribute newsletters and updates, ensuring consistent communication across all work areas.
Design and produce publications, multimedia content, and branded materials.
Develop and execute crisis communication plans, supporting management as spokespeople and addressing potential issues proactively.
SELECTION CRITERIA
Selection criteria Essential
Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field.
Proven experience in media relations, content creation, and social media management.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong organisational and project management abilities.
Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
Proficiency in using communication tools and software.
Commitment to the principles of unionism
Selection criteria Desirable
Experience with graphic design and video editing software.
Knowledge of SEO and digital marketing strategies.
Familiarity with analytics tools to measure communication effectiveness.
Understanding of the Western Australian industrial, social and political environment.
Possess functional knowledge and/or experience with WordPress.
