Short Back & Sidewalks is a not-for-profit organisation giving free haircuts, free of judgement to people experiencing homelessness and poverty. Our service goes beyond a haircut; we create meaningful connections through conversations with clients and create visibility for some of the most marginalised community members.
We work alongside community service providers across Australia, providing friendly and attentive hair-cutting experiences with some of Australia’s best hairdressers and barbers as our volunteers. Short Back & Sidewalks currently operates in Western Australia, New South Wales, South Australia and Victoria.
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Short Back & Sidewalks team in a new role as our Marketing & Communications Lead. Based in Perth and with a national remit, you will be responsible for developing and executing effective marketing and communications strategies and campaigns to increase the impact we make. Working closely with our CEO, this exciting new role is a fantastic opportunity within a growing organisation, passionate about building a strong and inclusive community.
About you
We are seeking a creative, dynamic and experienced marketing and communications professional who can devise and implement marketing strategy, develop engaging and impactful content and deliver strategic communications that will elevate and strengthen our brand. You will engage and manage media and marketing partners, collaborate with marketing teams at our service provider, corporate, philanthropic, government and hair industry partners, celebrate and hero our awesome volunteers to assist with volunteer recruitment and use data to effectively to tell our impact story to our key stakeholders.
This role will give you the opportunity to help shape Short Back & Sidewalks’ future by delivering against our organisational KPIs and at the same time, create positive connections with people experiencing homelessness and poverty across Australia.
What you'll need to succeed
Min. 5 years as a manager delivering high quality marketing and communications outcomes
Tertiary qualifications in marketing, communications, or a related field
A track record in delivering effective brand, marketing and communications campaigns
Strong writing and content creation skills with the ability to craft compelling and on-brand messaging, as well as report writing and media releases
Proficiency in digital marketing tools and platforms, including social media, email marketing, and web analytics
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and proven stakeholder management experience
Exceptional project management and organisational skills, with the ability to juggle multiple priorities and keen attention to detail
Demonstrated experience successfully working in dynamic, small team environments and creating a productive, respectful and high performing culture
Experience working in a Not for Profit or social enterprise environment and demonstrated understanding/experience of trauma-informed practice and working with vulnerable people is highly desirable.
Above all, you’ll be a self-starting, confident and strategic individual able to work both independently and collaboratively and have a desire to have a positive impact in the communities that we work with.
