The Data & Evaluation Lead, is responsible for overseeing the data and evaluation initiatives of the StandBy Program, ensuring data quality, integrity and strategic alignment. This role provides expert evaluation advice, drives evaluation efforts and supports continuous improvement and stakeholder reporting through evidence-based insights.
Selection Criteria
Below is the essential (unless otherwise indicated) demonstrable experience a person requires to successfully fulfil the responsibilities of this position:
• Extensive experience leading evaluation projects, and understanding of formative, process, impact and outcome evaluation
• Advanced skills in data analysis, program monitoring and improvement, including experience with co-designing evaluation frameworks involving end-users and staff.
• Strong conceptual, analytical, and reasoning skills to research, evaluate and develop practical and strategic solutions
• Proven ability to interpret evaluation findings and translate them into tangible improvements and operational changes
• Demonstrated ability to plan and deliver high-quality outputs within deadlines, particularly in dynamic environments.
• Demonstrated experience in Stakeholder Management, including knowledge of principles and processes for effectively mapping and managing internal and external stakeholders and demonstrated experience in stakeholder engagement across a variety of settings
• High levels skills in synthesising data, identifying its limitations and leading data quality improvement initiatives
• Demonstrated experience in change management, including proven ability to incorporate
appropriate processes, tools and techniques in managing humanistic change that informs successful project outcomes
Experience, Qualifications and Other Requirements
• A tertiary qualification in Health, Science, Social Sciences or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in program evaluation, or a related field
• Experience and understanding of suicide prevention and/or postvention
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Background in community service sector organisations
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Proven ability to develop adaptive responses to program challenges.
• Strong skills in MS Office, with exceptional knowledge of Excel and PowerPoint.
• Ability to engage and motivate stakeholders to deliver improved outcomes
• Hold a current ‘C’ class driver licence.
• Hold, or be eligible to apply for, working with children check in relevant jurisdiction
Key Responsibilities
• Data Strategy & Management
o Develop and lead a comprehensive data strategy aligned with StandBy’s strategic goals.
o Maintain and enhance data systems and infrastructure to support robust data collection, analysis, and reporting including the StandBy Database.
o Ensure compliance with data governance, privacy, an.d security standards in line with the recent Privacy & Confidentiality Audit.
• Monitoring & Evaluation
o Design, implement and monitor monitoring and evaluation (M&E) frameworks and logic models.
o Coordinate internal and external evaluation initiatives
o Identify risks and mitigation strategies in evaluation work
• Analysis & Reporting
o Analyse data for actionable insights that inform advocacy and decision-making
o Produce reports, dashboards and presentations using tools like PowerBI
o Present evaluation findings to leadership to inform decision-making and advocacy efforts.
o Prepare high-level policy documents, guidelines and briefing papers.
• Capacity Building
o Deliver training and support to enhance staff data literacy and evaluation capacity.
o Foster a culture of learning and continuous improvement.
• Collaboration and Leadership
o Collaborate cross-functionally with program, development, finance, and communications teams.
o Lead StandBy’s Evaluation Working Group
o Oversee strategic evaluation project delivery and maintain strong relationships
General Duties
• Participate in staff meetings, training sessions and other network meetings as appropriate and contribute to the development of StandBy through support and positive working relationships with staff, external stakeholders, and the community.
• Participate in training and professional development relevant to the StandBy program and Youturn Limited.
• Perform other duties as directed that are within the limits of the employee’s skill, competence and training and the scope of the employee’s award classification.

StandBy is Australia’s leading suicide postvention program dedicated to assisting people and communities bereaved or impacted by suicide.
