This agency is the cornerstone of the government's comprehensive sport strategy: Safeguarding the Integrity of Sport.

Their role is to provide advice and assistance to counter the use of prohibited substances in sport, abuse of children and other persons in a sporting environment, manipulation of sporting competitions and failure to protect members of sporting organisations and other persons in a sporting environment from bullying, intimidation, discrimination, or harassment.

The Opportunity

Using your legal skills, you will provide advice and work to ensure the good sportsmanship and integrity of Australian sport is maintained, something we are incredibly proud of.

This role will also have an international focus, working with the stakeholders including the National Olympic Committee, National Paralympic Committee and World Anti-Doping Agency.

The Role

Work within a team is responsible for providing high quality and timely legal advice to this organisation’s operational and support teams. Depending on your area of legal expertise, you’d advise in one of more of the following areas; administrative law (e.g. freedom of information and privacy), anti-doping, commercial law, employment law, integrity and litigation.

Key duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Preparing submissions for the Chief Executive Officer, including recommendations as to the exercise of the CEO’s statutory functions under the National Anti-Doping scheme in relation to possible anti-doping rule violations
  • Providing high quality legal advice to other areas of Sport Integrity Australia on a range of matters affecting the agency’s operations, including the Sport Integrity Australia Act 2020 (Cth) and Regulations, sports policies, the World Anti-Doping Code and supporting guidelines and documents and the National Integrity Framework
  • Conducting legal research where required and assisting in training agency staff on legal issues relevant to the work of Sport Integrity Australia
  • Working with the other operational and support areas of Sport Integrity Australia, including athletes and sporting organisations, and with other national anti-doping organisations globally

The Ideal Person

You will have relevant legal qualifications, as well as a minimum 3-5 years of PQE. In addition, you will have:

  • A law degree from an Australian tertiary institution (or equivalent), and admission as a legal practitioner in a Supreme Court of a State or Territory
  • Demonstrated experience in one or more of the following practice areas; administrative law (FOI, privacy), anti-doping, commercial law, employment law or integrity and litigation
  • Well-developed decision-making and judgment, in providing legal advice across multiple areas of legal practice
  • Well-developed document review, drafting and legal research skills.
  • The ability to develop strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Sound knowledge of integrity and anti-doping frameworks, or the ability to acquire such knowledge in a quick timeframe

You must be eligible to hold and maintain a Baseline Security Clearance and be an Australian Citizen to be considered.

Salary / Rate

  • $105k - $115k + 15.4% Super
  • Fyshwick location
  • 12-month non-ongoing contract with extension options – s26 transfers welcome
