This agency is the cornerstone of the government's comprehensive sport strategy: Safeguarding the Integrity of Sport.

Their role is to provide advice and assistance to counter the use of prohibited substances in sport, abuse of children and other persons in a sporting environment, manipulation of sporting competitions and failure to protect members of sporting organisations and other persons in a sporting environment from bullying, intimidation, discrimination, or harassment.

The Opportunity

This is a rare opportunity to lead high-stakes legal work in a nationally significant agency and influence decision-making at the highest levels.

Working with this agency, you will have direct access to the CEO and help shape the legal framework that protects fair play across Australian sports.

You will also develop your leadership skills, being a mentor to more junior staff.

The Role

You will provide expert legal advice on complex regulatory, enforcement, and policy matters impacting Australian sport.

Duties will include:

• Provide expert legal advice across administrative law, anti-doping, commercial law, employment law, and litigation in a regulatory environment
• Draft high-level submissions and recommendations for the CEO on statutory functions and anti-doping rule violations
• Oversee legal advice and policy development related to national and international integrity frameworks, legislation, and the World Anti-Doping Code
• Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders including athletes, sporting bodies, law enforcement, and global anti-doping organisations
• Draft and review contracts, manage sensitive legal matters, and ensure compliance with legislative and policy frameworks
• Supervise junior lawyers, deliver legal training, and handle complex, high-stakes work under tight timeframes

The Ideal Person

You are an experienced and versatile lawyer with strong and demonstrated expertise in administrative, employment, and regulatory law, ideally within a government or sports context.

You’re a strategic thinker, confident handling complex legal matters under pressure, and skilled in drafting high-level advice.

With strong stakeholder engagement skills and a collaborative approach, you lead and mentor effectively while demonstrating discretion, and a genuine commitment to protecting the integrity of Australian sport.

Salary / Rate

• $122k - $132k + 15.4% super
