The Team:
The Community Health Clinic on truwana/Cape Barren Island Health Clinic is a remote clinic that provides health care to the community of up to 100 people. The clinic is open from 8.30am until 5pm weekdays and provides an after-hours service outside of these times for emergencies and urgent care needs. It is staffed by Clinical Nurse Specialists, Aboriginal Health Workers and Health Care assistants with extra support from the Flinders Island Multi-Purpose Centre. There is a GP clinic that runs from the health clinic every Thursday.
The Role:
The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) works from 9am until 5pm weekdays and is on-call for emergencies outside of these hours, the roster rotates with the CNS staying on the Island for 8 days at a time. Travel to and from the Island is supported with flights usually departing the Tasmanian mainland from Bridport. Accommodation is supplied free of charge while on truwana/Cape Barren Island. The CNS provides primary and emergency care for community members as well as support to access health services and health promotion activities.

You will need:
- Excellent clinical and assessment skills with a high degree of proficiency in triage and emergency care
- The ability to work as an autonomous practitioner with support via phone or telehealth
- Knowledge and understanding of aboriginal health issues and a proven ability to work in a culturally safe and appropriate manner
- To be flexible and adaptable and be able to respond effectively to both clinical and non-clinical situations

Details of appointment:
Fixed term, part time, day worker (with on-call) position, working 19 hours per fortnight, commencing from a mutually agreed date until 3 August 2026.
*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.
Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.
Salary: $106,570 to $112,440 per annum (Pro rata). Our Employer 11.5% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.
- Salary range is in accordance with Nurses and Midwives (Tasmania State Service) Agreement 2023.
Salary Packaging:
You’ll have access to salary package a range of benefits including living expenses up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year + other benefits if eligible.
Regional Allowances:
- District Allowances of up to $4,618 per annum for a family
- Remote and Rural Professional Development Allowance of $3,699 per annum and an additional salary allowance of 10%

Eligibility:
Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria.
- Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse
- Current Driver’s Licence
Applicants should note the following criteria are desirable:
- Immuniser for Health Practitioners (3072103)
- Immuniser ASCIA (cert)
- Postgraduate qualifications in remote area nursing and primary health care
- Recent emergency department experience at a tertiary level hospital
