We are seeking a compassionate, patient, and highly skilled Disability Support Worker to provide cognitive and behavioural support for an individual living with a severe traumatic brain injury (TBI). The role focuses on daily living assistance, implementing behaviour support strategies, and supporting rehabilitation goals to promote independence and safety in daily routines.
The client presents with challenging behaviours, such as verbal aggression, agitation, impulsivity, and difficulty managing focus. The support worker will play a vital role in implementing structured routines and de-escalation techniques while fostering a positive and encouraging environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with routine activities, including meal preparation, grocery shopping, laundry, and household cleaning.
- Provide verbal prompting and guidance to initiate and complete tasks.
- Assist with medication reminders and daily scheduling using external memory aids (e.g., phone alarms, whiteboard).
- Support the client with attending rehabilitation appointments, gym sessions, and recreational activities.
- Provide transport to community activities and appointments safely.
- Encourage positive engagement in community settings.
- Implement strategies from the client’s Positive Behaviour Support Plan (PBSP).
- Respond effectively to agitation and verbal aggression, using de-escalation techniques.
- Encourage emotional regulation and problem-solving strategies.
- Assist the client with physiotherapist-prescribed exercises at the gym.
- Support the implementation of organizational tools and routines for independent living.
- Promote participation in recreational activities to improve quality of life.
- Monitor the client’s emotional state and behaviours for escalation.
- Maintain clear boundaries regarding substance use during support hours.
- Act swiftly to ensure safety in potentially volatile situations.
- Maintain detailed records of progress, behaviours, and incidents.
- Communicate regularly with the care coordinator, case manager, and clinical team to ensure consistent support.

Qualifications & Experience:
- Minimum Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability) or relevant qualification.
- Experience in supporting individuals with cognitive impairments, mental health challenges, and behavioural difficulties.
- Training in Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) and de-escalation techniques is highly desirable.
- Current First Aid and CPR certifications.
- Valid Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle.
- NDIS Worker Screening Check or ability to obtain one.
