Support Worker – Supported Independent Living (SIL)

Empowered Living Care is a person-centred disability support provider based in the Sutherland Shire. We are currently seeking experienced, compassionate, and reliable Support Workers to join our SIL home in Menai. This is an opportunity to work in a rewarding environment where you will have a meaningful impact on the lives of individuals living with disability.

About the Role
You will be supporting male participants with complex needs in a supported accommodation setting. This role requires someone who is experienced, confident, and committed to providing high-quality, individualised support. The successful candidate must be comfortable working with complex behaviours and have a solid understanding of professional boundaries and Positive Behaviour Support.
You must be available for all shift types, including:
Daytime shifts
Sleepovers
Active night shifts

Key Responsibilities
Personal and Daily Living Support
Assist with personal care including showering, dressing, toileting, grooming, and manual handling
Support with household duties including cooking, cleaning, washing, and ironing
Assist with mobility and transfers, following manual handling protocols
Medication administration (following training and policy)
Provide additional care such as PEG feeding if trained
Community and Social Participation
Support clients to attend appointments (e.g., medical, therapy, Centrelink)
Facilitate access to the community, including recreational and social activities
Encourage social inclusion and help clients build and maintain relationships
Behavioural and Emotional Support
Support clients with complex needs using person-centred and Positive Behaviour Support strategies
Respond calmly and appropriately to behaviours of concern
Record-Keeping and Communication
Maintain accurate records including shift notes, incident reports, and progress updates
Use internal systems such as Brevity to record attendance and availability
Communicate professionally with the team, families, and external stakeholders
Essential Criteria
Previous experience as a Support Worker in disability services
Confident working with male participants with complex support needs
Flexibility to work across all shift types, including active nights and sleepovers
Valid First Aid and CPR certification
Valid Working with Children Check (WWCC)
Valid NDIS Worker Screening Check or willingness to obtain
COVID-19 vaccinations (as per current health regulations)
Current NSW Driver’s Licence and access to your own vehicle
Fluent in spoken and written English
Willingness to undergo a Police Check
Desirable
Competency in medication administration and manual handling
Familiarity with Positive Behaviour Support plans
Relevant qualifications in disability or community services
