ABOUT THE ORGANISATION

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated person to work for Narang Bir-rong Aboriginal Corporation (Narang Bir-rong). Narang Bir-rong provides Family Support Services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Families in Western Sydney, Nepean Blue Mountains, Northern Sydney/Eastern Sydney/Sydney and connected communities as well as Out of Home Care placements for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people who cannot remain at home due to abuse and/or neglect.

The role is full-time (35hrs) and all roles are based at our Penrith Office.

Tasks & responsibilities

The Cultural Connections Worker works intensively with our Out of Home Care casework teams and clients to develop cultural care plans, programs and activities tailored to the individual CYP’s cultural needs.

This role will be responsible for connecting our children back to their family, country and community they belong to and aims at reunifying our children with their families and their community.

NBAC PAY SCALES (ABOVE AWARD WAGE)

  • CW/S6 to CW/S14
  • Total Package Value $90,899.80 - $117,898.51 (value is dependent on qualifications and experience. The total package value includes leave loading and Superannuation)

Qualifications & experience

  • Aboriginality is a genuine qualification under the Anti-Discrimination Act.
  • Evidence of at least two COVID-19 Vaccinations.
  • Current Working With Children Check (WWCC) & National Police Check for employment purposes.
  • Qualifications in community services, social work, psychology or relevant social science field.
  • Experience or knowledge in child and family welfare and in foster care or a related area of alternative care for children
  • Knowledge of issues pertaining to the Stolen Generations and transgenerational trauma
  • Knowledge of issues surrounding abuse and neglect of children and the impact of trauma and child protection.
  • Preferred applicants must have a sound knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture and values and the ability to effectively communicate with Aboriginal children and families.
  • Capacity to travel within NSW and interstate as required to connect with other Aboriginal and TSI communities to provide cultural support and guidance to the CYP.
  • Project management skills including developing, implementing and evaluating projects.
  • Experience in delivering training.
  • Experience in public speaking.
  • A sound knowledge of child development and childhood trauma.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with and relate to a range of professionals.
  • Demonstrated highly developed written and verbal skills.
  • Varied professional and general life experience.
  • Mature outlook and well-developed communication skills.
