Make a difference in the lives of children and young people impacted by domestic and family violence.
We are seeking a passionate, trauma-informed Specialist Worker to join our team as part of the Specialist Workers for Children and Young People Program (SWCYP). This role is focused on providing dedicated, therapeutic, culturally safe and trauma-informed support to children and young people aged 0-18 years who are residing in a domestic and family violence (DFV) refuge with their mothers or caregivers.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver tailored, trauma-informed support and case management to children and young people impacted by DFV.
Conduct needs assessments and collaboratively develop case plans to support emotional wellbeing, safety, connection to education, culture, and community.
Provide individual and group therapeutic interventions, in collaboration with family members and key support services.
Act as an advocate and linker, ensuring children and families access the right services at the right time (e.g., mental health, education, child protection, cultural services).
Maintain accurate case notes and comply with reporting and data entry obligations (e.g., CIMS flagging and quarterly case studies).
About You
You are a child-centred, compassionate professional who is committed to making a difference in the lives of children and young people affected by trauma. You bring:
Tertiary qualifications in social work, psychology, early childhood, youth work, counselling or a related discipline.
Demonstrated experience working with children and young people experiencing complex trauma, preferably within DFV or homelessness contexts.
Sound understanding of trauma-informed, strengths-based, culturally safe, and person-centred practice.
Ability to work collaboratively with mothers/caregivers and external services to support family-centred healing.
Knowledge of the impact of DFV and homelessness on children’s development, education, and wellbeing.
Highly developed communication, documentation, and case management skills.
Understanding of child protection, SHS program principles, and NSW DFV sector frameworks.
Current Working with Children Check, NSW Driver Licence, and willingness to travel locally as required.
