Position Description — Laboratory Technician

We’re looking for a Laboratory Technician to join our Brisbane-based team. This is a unique opportunity to be part of a high-impact research project, focusing on sample collection, processing, and genotyping. You’ll work closely with senior scientists and our Research & Development Director, gaining invaluable experience while working on a globally impactful project.

You have basic data handling and analysing skills , with the ability to interpret experimental results and contribute to data organization. You are eager to learn from leading scientists while playing a crucial role in executing laboratory procedures that support a multi-year research project, ensuring high-quality results that contribute to meaningful discoveries.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING DAY TO DAY
As a Laboratory Technician, you’ll be responsible for supporting research activities by:
Sample Collection & Processing: Assist in the collection, preparation, and storage of biological samples for genotyping and molecular analysis.
DNA Extraction & Preparation: Conduct laboratory procedures to isolate and prepare high-quality DNA samples for further analysis.
Molecular Biology Techniques: Apply techniques such as qPCR and sequencing protocols under the guidance of senior scientists.
Experimental Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve technical issues in sample preparation, DNA extraction, and molecular assays.
Bioinformatics & Data Analysis: Utilize basic bioinformatics tools and software for sequence analysis, data visualization, and interpretation
Quality Control & Data Integrity: Ensure all samples are processed with precision and consistency, maintaining accurate digital records.
Lab Equipment & Protocols: Operate and maintain laboratory equipment according to established research protocols.
Collaboration & Learning: Work alongside a team of scientists and researchers, gaining exposure to advanced methodologies in genetic and molecular research.
Technical Documentation & Reporting: Maintain detailed laboratory notebooks, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and contribute to research reports.
Presentation & Communication: Effectively communicate experimental findings to team members through meetings, presentations, or written summaries.
Multitasking & Time Management: Balance multiple projects and tasks while ensuring high-quality lab work and data accuracy.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Honours Degree (Minimum, post-doctoral preferable) in Genetics/Genomics, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, or a related field.
Hands-on Lab Experience: Prior experience in DNA extraction, PCR/qPCR, and genotyping techniques.
Strong Attention to Detail: Ability to follow laboratory protocols with precision and accuracy
Excellent Data Management Skills: Ability to maintain clear, organised lab records and work with digital data management systems.
Team Player: A willingness to collaborate and learn from experienced researchers.
Passion for Scientific Research: A keen interest in genetics, molecular biology, and their applications in sustainable solutions.
Brisbane Based: This role will be based in Brisbane, Qld.
