About the opportunity
We are seeking a Technical and Laboratory Officer to join the Faculty of Health to provide technical support for students, academic staff, clinicians and maintain the efficient delivery of the clinical teaching laboratories. This is a hands-on, practical, behind-the-scenes role ideal for candidates with current or recent clinical nursing or midwifery experience, who are excited to apply their professional expertise in an educational setting.
Working closely with academic, technical and clinical teams, you will play a key role in ensuring clinical teaching laboratories are well-prepared, safe and effectively equipped for student learning. On-the-job training will be provided for candidates who bring strong clinical experience and a willingness to develop their technical capabilities.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Preparing, maintaining and supporting the use of clinical equipment for nursing and midwifery practical labs, including high-fidelity simulation environments.
- Working alongside academic and technical colleagues to ensure smooth delivery of laboratory sessions and contribute to student learning experiences.
- Maintaining clinical teaching spaces and troubleshooting specialised equipment.
- Supporting safety and compliance through application of WHS principles and appropriate record keeping.
About you
We are seeking applications from individuals with a relevant tertiary qualification and a minimum of two years’ experience in a relevant technical role or equivalent nursing and/or midwifery industry experience. You will be practical, flexible, organised and have a proactive approach to your work, welcoming new learning and problem-solving opportunities. You will draw on your clinical and/or technical knowledge and expertise in the use and maintenance of clinical equipment to prepare, advise, maintain and improve realistic simulated learning environments for practical Nursing and Midwifery labs.
To thrive in this position, you will also have:
- Current nursing and/or midwifery registration will be highly regarded.
- Current Hepatitis B vaccination, and requirement to hold and maintain current First Aid and Resuscitation certificates.
- A commitment to laboratory WHS regulations, time-management, communication, and strong teamwork skills are essential.
- Strong organisational skills with a systematic, detail-oriented approach and the ability to develop and follow procedures and processes accurately and through to completion.
- Experience in operating and maintaining high and low fidelity simulation manikins, electronic and software applications is desirable, but not essential.

- Full-time, continuing (permanent).
- Located at Gold Coast, QLD 4225, a location that offers the very best of an Australian coastal lifestyle, proximity to world class beaches and World Heritage rainforests, free on-site parking and proximity to the Gold Coast Airport.
- HEW Level 5. The base salary ranges from $80,737 - $89,717 per annum, plus 17% employer’s contribution to superannuation. The total remuneration package is up to $104,968.89.
