Quality, Environment, Health and Safety Manager

We are expanding our operations to include the recycling and repurposing of lithium-ion batteries with our new facility in Heatherbrae, NSW. When completed, it will be the first of its kind in Australia, capable of processing 1000 tonnes of waste batteries per year.

We are building a team of engineers, technicians, and skilled workers to ensure smooth and safe operation of our battery recycling plant.

This role would be focused on managing the workplace health and safety on the site and ensure we operate an environmentally-friendly and compliant operation.

Ideally, we are looking for a candidate with strong Health and Safety experience (and an understanding of the Quality aspects) who would like further exposure to the Quality and Environmental parts of the role.

Responsibilities :
1. As a site QEHS leader, ensures alignment with the Global /Group QEHS vision, principles, rules.
2. Drive awareness and accountability for environmental, health and safety performance through all levels of the organisation responsible for the overall day-to-day management and direction of EHS within the site. Share best practices and learning at site-level.
3. Escalate EHS incidents to local GM and Global QESS Director / Regional Env & Compliance Manager
4. Implementation of the Global EHS Management System. Establish, develop and maintain local EHS operating procedures.
5. Collect and maintain EHS and sustainability data and records, analyse for trends and provide feedback and preventative measures
6. Report EHS performance and sustainability metric reporting to Regional EHS Manager and local GM.
7. Conduct EHS hazard and risk assessments and identifying relevant controls. Participate on project teams to assure appropriate level of EHS review during design, install, and start up process. Includes partnering with Engineering, Operations, etc functions to ensure integration of EHS elements into design process
8. Maintain a legal register of all relevant legislation. Monitor changes to EHS legislation and regulations, identify and mitigate risk of non-compliance
9. Develop and deliver EHS training, awareness and education programs at site level
10. Conduct incident investigations, including root cause analysis, and monitoring implementation of preventative and corrective actions
11. Conduct or ensure regular internal EHS audits and inspections
12. Manage onsite contractors
13. Carry out duties of EHS person as per stipulated local statutory requirements.

14. Undertaking and reporting on EHS auditing (ie. customer, EHSQMS & R2 audits).

What you will bring to the role :

  • Health and safety qualifications and at least 3+ years experience in the field
  • Relevant experience within the manufacturing, resources/mining, or recycling industries
  • Previous exposure to ISO standards, e.g 9001, and 14001
  • Competent computer skills (Outlook, Excel, Word, Powerpoint)
  • Ability to manage your time well, prioritize work, and structure work efficiently
  • Experience with incident and accident management within the workplace
  • Effective communication and interpersonal relationship skills
  • Ability to analyse and interpret safety information, and data and report/present on those trends identified
  • Adaptable and positive approach to meet the needs of the projects and business
