We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join a team in Sydney. You’ll play a pivotal role in advancing next-generation counter-drone technologies. You’ll work at the intersection of embedded software, RF systems, and AI, helping shape and scale a new defence and security platform.

This is a hands-on role, ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment and wants to help define the future of high-performance, real-time systems.

What You’ll Do

• Design and implement new software features from initial concept through to production release
• Collaborate with frontend and backend teams to deliver clean, scalable APIs
• Develop robust software architectures optimised for performance on embedded Linux systems
• Apply test-driven development practices to ensure code reliability and maintainability
• Lead and document architecture decisions, system design, and internal processes
• Mentor team members and provide technical leadership in a collaborative setting
• Drive performance optimisation in resource-constrained and real-time environments
• Support system integration and testing across multidisciplinary teams
• Troubleshoot complex system behaviours and implement resilient solutions
• Contribute to the design of microservices and scalable backend architectures

What You Bring

• Degree in Computer Science, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering or similar
• 5+ years’ experience in software engineering, embedded systems, or API development
• Strong hands-on C++ experience
• Strong Python development experience
• Expertise in API design and service integration (REST, gRPC, raw TCP/UDP)
• Solid grasp of software design patterns and system architecture principles
• Experience with Git, CI/CD workflows, Jira, and Confluence
• Comfortable working in a Linux-first development environment

Bonus Points For

• Background with microservice architecture and hardware-in-the-loop CI/CD pipelines
• Familiarity with RF, embedded systems, or real-time computing
• Command-line fluency and comfort debugging low-level system interactions
