About the role

As the Privacy Officer within the Compliance and Privacy Team in Legal Services, your core responsibility is to ensure privacy compliance, enhance and maintain a culture of privacy and provide expert advice to stakeholders on the strategic initiatives and projects involving privacy legislation and risk mitigation.

In your role you will also:

• Perform day to day management of the Mandatory Notification of Data Breach Scheme process
• Enhance privacy frameworks and develop privacy tools, policies, and procedures
• Lead efforts to raise awareness and capability across the department through privacy training, reporting, and the implementation of privacy-by-design principles.

About you

As the new incumbent for this role, you will be driven and committed to upholding the highest standards of privacy compliance. You will demonstrate:

• Strong understanding of privacy legislation and proven experience navigating complex privacy matters
• Strategic and forward-thinking mindset and solution focused when privacy issues arise
• Ability to build trusting relationships with stakeholders and influence best practice on privacy

Key Knowledge and experience

• Knowledge of and commitment to implementing the Department's Aboriginal Education Policy and upholding the Department's Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people.

Essential requirements of the role

• Relevant tertiary qualifications or demonstrated equivalent knowledge and experience.
• Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the value of public education.
