Step into a pivotal role where you'll drive compliance by investigating development and building matters, gathering evidence and representing Council in legal proceedings to uphold legislative standards.

About the role:
  • Undertake compliance investigations and actions related to development and building matters within legislative frameworks.
  • Apply expert knowledge of the NSW Environmental Planning and Assessment Act and Regulation to ensure lawful and effective outcomes.
  • Deliver high-quality customer service, particularly when resolving complaints and providing advice addressing community concerns.
  • Manage tasks proactively and independently, meeting deadlines with strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Maintain accurate records, prepare written reports and correspondence using Council’s Record Management system in line with legal and organisational requirements.

We are seeking:
  1. Holds a Diploma (or higher) qualification in town planning, building, environmental engineering, environmental protection, law, or a related discipline.
  2. Brings strong experience in compliance roles, with proven ability to interpret legislation and present evidence in legal settings.
  3. High written and oral communication skills, with experience in conflict resolution and negotiation skills.
  4. Works independently, manages competing priorities effectively and thrives in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  5. Is tech-savvy with advanced computer skills, a current driver's licence and a solid understanding of planning and compliance legislation.

This position is based in Murwillumbah and can be directed to work from any Council work site.
