Trade Your Boots for a Teaching Role! Become a Farm Skills Instructor at TAFE Gippsland

Are you a hands-on farmer who knows your way around a quad bike, can reverse a trailer with your eyes closed, and can set up a boom spray before your morning coffee? Want to pass on your know-how to the next generation of farmers and keep your boots on?

TAFE Gippsland is on the lookout for a Farm Skills Instructor to deliver real-world training in the paddock, shed, and beyond. Whether you’ve been running machinery, spraying paddocks, or teaching a few new workers the ropes already — this could be your next great move.

What You’ll Be Doing

Deliver engaging, hands-on training in:

o Farm machinery operation (tractors and Front-end loaders, ATVs, side-by-sides)

o Pasture and crop establishment (machinery implements such as discs, seeders, fertiliser spreaders, rollers)

o Chemical application and spraying (knapsacks to boom sprays)

o Farm Fencing and farm infrastructure (water supplies, drafting livestock)

Provide safe, practical demonstrations in real or simulated work environments.

Adapt your teaching style to engage younger learners of senior school age as well as mature-aged students changing careers.

Share your real-world experience and industry tips to bring learning to life.

Contribute to lesson planning and continuous improvement of training delivery.

What You Bring

Strong background in agriculture, land management, or a related field.

Confidence in operating and instructing others on tractors, side-by-sides, pasture implements, and chemical sprayers.

Experience with fencing, farm safety, and equipment maintenance.

Excellent communication and people skills — you can connect with school aged learners and mature ages leaners in the same session.

Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40122) — or willingness to obtain it with financial support to cover course fees and dedicated time to complete course

A passion for rural skills and helping others succeed.

What’s In It for You?

Competitive salary and excellent employment conditions including generous Long Service Leave provisions

Paid Parental Leave provisions

Professional development opportunities to support career growth as a trainer

42 weeks attendance on campus required each year
