About us

Backyard Café is opening soon on the ground floor of 2 Joseph Road, Footscray. We’re setting up a fresh, produce-driven brunch kitchen and are hiring an experienced chef to build the menu and lead the team from day one.

The role

Design and cost a seasonal brunch menu plus weekly specials.

Run the pass during service and keep workflows smooth in a small open kitchen.

Manage ordering, stock control and supplier relationships.

Champion food-safety, allergen management and kitchen hygiene.

Train and mentor junior cooks as the team grows.

What you’ll bring

Minimum 5 years’ experience in a high-volume brunch or daytime café.

Certificate III in Commercial Cookery (or higher) and current Food-Safety Supervisor certificate.

Solid knowledge of Australian breakfast/brunch trends and dietary-inclusive cooking.

Proven skills in dish costing, waste minimisation and roster planning.

Full-time work rights in Australia.
