About the opportunity
The professional teams across the Tasmanian School of Medicine’s three campuses deliver a wide range of administrative and support services critical to the effective local delivery of the medicine program. These teams operate within a client focused service model supporting academics in the organisation and delivery of learning and teaching programs, examinations and assessments and supporting students through quality reception, information, advice and administration.
The Team Leader – Rural Clinical School (RCS) is responsible for leading, supervising and directing the professional team supporting the delivery of years 1-5 of the medicine program in Burnie, Latrobe and surrounding rural areas. The position is responsible for ensuring critical tasks and deadlines are met and for the local operational management of the School.
The incumbent will need to build strong professional relationships with academics as well as employees of the Tasmanian Health Service and other agencies that accept students for professional experience placements (PEP). Relationships with staff at other TSoM campuses and the broader operational context of the University will also be a key feature of this role.
What you’ll do:
- Lead, supervise and direct a team of professional staff to deliver administrative services according to agreed timelines and quality standards, ensuring effective target setting, through performance management, coaching, training and staff development.
- Work collaboratively to plan and deliver high level administration support for the local academic team to ensure critical deadlines are met and course timelines and outcomes are delivered.
- Utilise high level communication skills to develop and maintain effective relationships within the Rural Clinical School, with staff at other campuses of the TSoM and across relevant areas of the University.
- Provide high-level interpretation and advice to staff, students and clinicians about relevant University and School policies, processes, and procedures.
- Manage key operational aspects of local program delivery including recruitment, budget monitoring, space, infrastructure, safety and compliance to meet program outcomes.
- Actively participate in working groups, forums and other School of Medicine led activities that contribute to the successful deployment of the Medicine Program at a statewide level.

- Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to mentor and motivate others to work efficiently, effectively and co-operatively.
- Excellent oral and interpersonal skills and the ability to focus on and understand client needs and provide excellent customer service.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team.
- Demonstrated high level administrative skills including good organisational and prioritisation skills and the ability to perform tasks with accuracy, attention to detail and with minimum supervision.
- Competence in the use of a range of computer software applications, including word-processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation software, email and the Internet as a resource.
- Ability to identify and implement improvements in work methods and the working environment.
Salary details
Appointment to this role will be at HEO 6 and will have a total remuneration package of up to $113,029 comprising base salary within the range of $89,091 to $96,606 plus 17% superannuation.
