The Opportunity
We currently have an opportunity for a Disability Support – Employment Coach to join the Disability Support Team. The team is based at Seven Hills; however, this role will be across our sites at Seven Hills, Erskine Park with occasional visits to our Lithgow operations.
The role provides support to our supported employees, supporting them with their behaviour plans and different disabilities. Additionally, you’ll be working as part of a multi-disciplinary team to ensure the wellbeing of our supported employees is optimised, and this includes communicating regularly with families, and other carers, as well as fostering person-centered relationships with them.
Reporting to the Welfare Officer, you will:
Assist supported employees to achieve their employment goals and objectives.
Understand the tasks undertaken by supported employees and develop the skills, knowledge, and experience of the supported employees to enable them to contribute as effectively and efficiently in alignment with their capabilities.
Assist with supporting supported employees to understand the products and equipment being utilised, as well as the activities and processes being undertaken, how to work in sequence and work safely while complying with quality requirements.
Assist with the development and maintenance of accurate case notes, NDIS records, etc.
Assist with the development and maintenance of individual employment plans.
Participate in wage assessments when required.
Carry out any other duties necessary to ensure that the individual support needs of supported employees are addressed and met in an appropriate manner.
Assist with meal management on an as needs basis and training will be provided to carry out this function.
Liaise with the supported employee, relevant staff and external organisations to develop customised employment plans where such needs arise.
In collaboration with the supported employees, their advocates, and the welfare officer, identify and assist in the coordination and development of career path opportunities.
Assist with the implementation of behaviour management plans.
What you will need to succeed in the role:
Applicants with recent experience in an Australian Disability Enterprise (ADE) are strongly preferred.
At least 2 – 3 years supporting and working with people with disabilities of varying needs.
A minimum Certificate III in Disability or Community Services.
A good and practical understanding and application of the National Disability Insurance Scheme for people with disabilities.
Strong commitment and practical understanding of workplace health and safety.
Understanding of adult learning principles and how to develop, mentor and support people with disabilities.
Positive attitude.
Ability to work well in a team.
Experience with implementing and monitoring in the following is preferred:
Behaviour plans.
Individual employment plans.
Wage assessments
Risk assessments.
Incident reporting and incident investigation.
Previous experience or knowledge in packaging/production.
Please note Initially the role is being offered as a 12-month contract, full-time hours with the possibility of extension of the contract or the role being made permanent in the future.
