Are you a passionate and experienced General Practitioner with a strong commitment to medical education? Curtin University invites applications for a Specialty Lead in General Practice within the Curtin Medical School. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the ongoing development and delivery of our innovative undergraduate MBBS program.
In this pivotal academic role, you will lead the review and enhancement of General Practice curriculum across our MBBS course, support the delivery of high-quality teaching and assessments, and work closely with academic and clinical colleagues to ensure a consistent and enriching learning experience across our clinical teaching sites.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:
- Reviewing and updating existing curriculum objectives and related learning and teaching documents across the five years of the MBBS course.
- Contributing to the development of appropriate student learning resources.
- Contributing to face-to-face and online teaching across the five years of the MBBS course.
- Contributing to the writing and reviewing of assessments.
- Monitoring the quality, and consistent application of, teaching across Curtin Medical School clinical teaching sites, in conjunction with the Director of Clinical Education and Clinical Deans.
- Engaging in evidence-based scholarly activities and educational activities that advance learning, teaching, and assessment in your specialty area.
We're looking for:
- Qualifications: A degree in Medicine, AHPRA registration, and FRACGP or FACRRM.
- Demonstrated success in teaching and supervising medical students in clinical environments.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills to foster relationships and lead with impact.
- Strong leadership skills with experience in leading curriculum initiatives and professional development of staff.
- A background in general practice research is highly valued.

About us
The Curtin Medical School comprises the Disciplines of Medicine, Medical Radiation Science, Pharmacy, Laboratory Medicine and Biomedical Science. It is one of four schools within the Faculty of Health Sciences, alongside two affiliated research institutes (the Curtin Medical Research Institute and the Curtin enAble Institute). The flagship Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) program commenced in 2017, and is delivered predominantly in state-of-the-art clinical teaching and simulation facilities on the University’s Bentley campus.
The MBBS is the only undergraduate medical degree in Western Australia, and now enrols up to 120 new students each year, with preferential selection of students with a rural, Indigenous Australian or other equity background. Its unique curriculum and dynamic clinical placement program is driven by a future-focussed approach to medicine. In addition, the School has over 10 affiliated metropolitan hospital placement sites, along with health campuses in Midland (Perth) and Kalgoorlie (Goldfields, WA), is a member of the Rural Clinical School WA, and has close links with metropolitan and rural primary care and other community-based healthcare providers.

Selection Criteria
Essential:
- A degree in Medicine and current unrestricted AHPRA registration.
- Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP)
- Extensive clinical experience in General Practice, with a strong understanding of both metropolitan and rural healthcare settings.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain high clinical standards and adhere to professional ethical guidelines.
- Experience in supervising and mentoring medical students and junior doctors, with a focus on promoting critical thinking, clinical skills, and compassionate patient care.
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders, including students, faculty, healthcare professionals, and community partners.
- Demonstrated leadership and team-building skills, with the ability to foster a collaborative and supportive educational environment.
- Demonstrated commitment to fostering diversity and inclusion within the workplace and educational settings.
Desirable:
- Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement in clinical education, including curriculum development, assessment methodologies, and accreditation processes.
- Faculty members are regularly engaged in research and QI projects. A background in general practice research, with contributions to the field through publications, presentations, or participation in research projects, would be highly desirable to support the activity of our current GP researchers.
- Interest in and capacity for integrating research into teaching and curriculum development, enhancing the evidence-based practice skills of students.
