The Position
At Bialik College, First Aid is the emergency treatment of illness or injury occurring at school to maintain life, to ease pain and prevent deterioration of a person’s condition.
We are seeking a professional who is enthusiastic about providing care in a school setting to those injured or ill and can deliver competent administrative support for the First Aid area. This role requires you to work effectively as an individual and as a member of a team, operating within a multidisciplinary framework. You will need the ability to establish and develop professional relationships with students, staff and families providing First Aid support guided by Bialik’s policies.
Reporting to the Health Services Coordinator and Activities Manager, this role has wellbeing, risk assessment and administrative components. The key functions of this role are to conduct an initial intake and assessment of those who present to First Aid and apply relevant first aid treatment as well as ensuring that first aid facilities and supplies are maintained. The administrative role is primarily focused on record keeping, maintaining, and updating medical information as well supporting the school to meet it compliance obligations.
This position will work 22.8 hours per week, during school term time only, with the flexibility to work these hours over three (3) to five (5) weekdays. ASAP commencement date.
Primary Responsibilities
· Work collaboratively with, and under the guidance of the Health Services Coordinator
· Provide friendly, efficient, and professional first aid and health care to the school community.
· Be familiar with and follow Bialik’s First Aid Procedures
· To assist in the running, cleaning and provision of the First Aid area and its facilities
· Respond quickly to provide first aid treatment for injury/illness as needed
· Maintain accurate health records in relation to injury and illness
· Supervision of approved medication within the school’s medication guidelines
· Adhere to medical management plans (anaphylaxis, asthma, diabetes, etc
· Application of first aid and health emergencies occurring within the school
· Maintain and complete first aid kits
· Conduct regular stock audits
· Keep up to date with changes in first aid techniques, practices and legislation
· Attend sporting or other co-curricular activities as directed by the Health Services Coordinator
· Assists the Health Services Coordinator with administrative duties as required
· Consult with the Health Services Coordinator regarding professional development
· Perform other duties as directed by the Health Services Coordinator and the School Principal
Role Requirements
· Level 2 First Aid qualification (Level 3 First Aid qualification preferable, but not essential)
· Ability to manage critical incidents in an efficient and responsive manner
· A strong understanding of student health related issues and current practices regarding managing student health from an administrative perspective.
· Excellent people skills and an ability to communicate effectively with individuals under stressful circumstances
· Initiative and critical thinking skills coupled with the ability to work independently to ensure timelines are met.
· The ability to effectively multi-task and work in a demanding environment where time pressures and demands are ever changing
· Maintains awareness of current best practice in first aid administration
· Demonstrates a commitment to continuing professional development.
