Cooktown District Community Centre (CDCC) is a not-for-profit organisation providing community services and supports to Cooktown, Hope Vale, Wujal Wujal and Laura, including Financial Support, Parenting & Family Support, Family Support, Youth Engagement, Youth Alcohol and other drugs (AOD), Domestic & Family Violence Support, 60’s and Better and Intensive Playgroup.

As a registered charity, generous salary packaging applies. You can salary package up to $15,900 each Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) year for general living expenses. This is an entry-level position, level 1, under the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010 and will be provided with full support to complete a Certificate 3 in early childhood education.
Playgroup is a funded program through the National Indigenous Australians Agency and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are encouraged to apply however this is not an identified position.
Position Details
The Assistant Playgroup Educator is responsible for working within a team to prepare and support the delivery of intensive supported playgroup services to families with 0-5 aged children living in the Cooktown and District communities by:
Supporting the Playgroup team to plan, develop and implement culturally appropriate activities and programs designed to meet the National Quality Framework and the Early Years Learning Framework;
Assisting the Playgroup team to engage and support families to participate in playgroup and encourage appropriate play experiences with their young children;
Assisting the playgroup team to build on and strengthen the capacity of parents to support the health (including oral, optical and auditory) and the social and emotional well-being of the children, both within the playgroup and family home;
Ensuring continual development of playgroup activities by seeking feedback from participants, staff, and external stakeholders
Additional factors:
The position is part-time, working 4 days per week, although full-time hours can be discussed.
This position requires the successful applicant to hold a Provisional or Full QLD drivers’ licence and must be prepared to share driving to townships including Hope Vale, Laura and Wujal Wujal.
Ability to work independently with minimal direction and collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team.
Natural organisational skills, including being flexible, setting priorities, managing time efficiently, sound problem-solving skills, and using word processing, email and the Internet.
