About the Role:
We are seeking a dynamic Wholesale Market Salesperson to manage a fresh produce category (e.g., tomatoes, berries, avocados) from end-to-end. This role involves procurement, sales, returns, and managing relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Success in this role relies on deep relationship management, business development skills, resilience, and a proactive, accountable approach.
Key Responsibilities:
- Create, manage, and maintain business relationships with customers, growers, and suppliers
- Drive new sales and identify growth opportunities
- Ensure the Sales Support Team maximises sales within the existing customer base
- Manage customer expectations and monitor operational service levels
- Provide accurate sales forecasts and participate in budgeting processes
- Train and support a high performance Sales Support Team
- Attend sales meetings, visit grower sites, and participate in industry events
- Manage stock levels and positioning to entice sales and meet customer demand
- Support the State Manager and step up when they are unavailable
- Ensure compliance with Work Health and Safety Policies
Skills & Experience:
- Demonstrated experience in sales with end-to-end ownership of a product or category
- Exposure to fresh produce or similar perishable/FMCG environments
- Strong relationship management and conflict resolution skills
- Self-driven, accountable, and commercially focused
- Calm, resilient under pressure, and adept at handling complex logistics
- Strong communication, negotiation, and customer service ability
- Comfortable working in a high-intensity market environment during unsociable hours
- Ability to work autonomously while contributing to broader team goals
Desirable:
- Experience with tomatoes, avocados, or berries
- Track record of business development and bringing clients or growers into a new business
- Familiarity with independent retail and providore networks
- Innovative mindset with ideas to modernise traditional processes
- Perishables or meat industry background
