JOB DESCRIPTION

Ability to oversee all aspects of dairy shed operations milking and milk quality, hygiene maintenance, herd record keeping, also to supervise a team of casual employees, Assist with A.I. breeding programme, calf rearing, young sick work. Worming vaccinating, cow health/herd management.Pasture management/electric fencing. General farm maintenance work/fencing and spraying. Tractor work as required.

The person we are seeking should be capable of lifting the production to the next level, under the framework established by us and our Farm consultant.

We are a moderate input, pasture-based drylands dairy farm at Orbost in East Gippsland. We are close to beaches, mountains and 10 minutes drive from town and schools.The farm has a single operator 50 bail rotary dairy, automatic cup removers, automatic teat spray and automatic draft system, inclusive with feed pad/loafing area, good tracks and other infrastructure.

We milk 500 cows with a spilt calving system, utilising a balance of river flats and undulating hill country to feed the Friesians and cross breed cows. Raise and grass silage are purchased to get a strong level of production during the times of pasture shortfall
