The Project Officer – Consumer Health Literacy position can be based in our Melbourne or Brisbane office.
About the role
Lung Foundation Australia has secured Department of Health and Aged Care (DOHA) funding to deliver an innovative national Consumer Health Literacy project that helps Australians recognise chronic cough as a warning sign of lung disease and seek timely primary-care assessment.
Reporting to the General Manager – Consumer Programs & Partnerships, the Project Officer – Consumer Health Literacy will coordinate the project end to end: from detailed planning and stakeholder governance to campaign roll-out, automated digital journeys, and evaluation. You’ll collaborate with our Marketing & Communications, Digital Evolution, and Information & Support Centre teams, plus a dedicated Health Promotion Officer, to co-design resources and activation strategies that improve health literacy and drive consumer action.
Key responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain work plans, timelines, risk registers, budgets and DOHA reports, establishing and servicing the expert steering committee.
- Collaborate with consumers, clinicians, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, and other partners to co-design resources.
- Source evidence and draft briefs for copywriters and designers, coordinating clinical and consumer reviews, design and distribution of fact sheets and digital content that meet best-practice health-literacy standards.
- Work together with the Health Promotion Officer – to build and launch an automated email journey - that boosts consumer confidence to seek primary-care assessment.
- Track KPIs, analyse outcomes, prepare evaluation reports, identify process improvements and escalate risks promptly.
About you
We are seeking a motivated project officer with experience in coordinating public-health initiatives.
Essential skills and attributes include:
- Tertiary qualification in public health, science, policy or related discipline.
- Proven experience coordinating multi-stakeholder health, education or not-for-profit projects on time and on budget.
- Demonstrated strength in project planning, stakeholder facilitation, problem-solving.
- Strong interpersonal skills - able to engage consumers, clinicians, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, and government stakeholders with ease.
- Ability to develop health-literacy resources that meet plain-language and cultural-safety principles.
- High-level written communication, problem-solving and presentation skills.
- Competence with Microsoft 365; familiarity with CRM/email platforms (e.g., Salesforce, Campaign Monitor) desirable.
- Commitment to evidence-based practice and continuous quality improvement.
