About the role

As the Cook, you will plan and prepare a nutritionally balanced menu for children aged 0-5 years following the Munch and Move guidelines.

Work closely with the Nominated Supervisor, your team, and wider Council teams to champion excellent customer service for stakeholders and clients.

What you’ll be doing:

Prepare a varied, nutritional, interesting and adequate in quantity, cyclical menu for children 0-5 years.

Ensure that children’s individual dietary requirements are always met having regard to the children’s growth and developmental needs; and any specific cultural, religious, allergy and health needs.

Continuously monitor approved expenditure - determine and order provisions required to meet menu requirements from appropriate suppliers (as discussed with the Director).

Maintain a high standard of health and hygiene as required by the National Food Safety Standards including safe practices for handling, preparing and storing of food.

Maintain temperature records for received food and kitchen equipment; return any noncompliant items and notify the Director.

Develop an appropriate kitchen cleaning schedule to maintain the kitchen and all equipment in a clean and hygienic manner.

Prepare morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea for children 0-5 years, including organising and clearing away all provisions required for mealtimes.

Develop and maintain positive relationships with children and parents.

Maintain positive and open communication with team members.

Ensure the fortnightly menu is on display for families.

Implement Centre Policies and Procedures and contribute to the evaluation of these documents.

Requirements

School Certificate/Higher School Certificate.

Relevant qualification in commercial cookery or catering

Current Food Handling Certificate

Food Supervisor Certificate

Current First Aid Certificate or willingness to obtain within 3 months of commencement.

Working with Children Check

Experience in planning, ordering, preparing and serving a nutritionally balanced menu for children aged 0-5 years.

Knowledge of diverse dietary requirements within approved budget expenditure.

Knowledge of the nutritional needs of developing children including experience in managing dietary requirements for children with identified allergies.

Ability to maintain a clean and hygienic kitchen while adhering to food safety protocols.

Maintain records for compliance, including cleaning, food, and any other necessary records to ensure compliance with health codes and regulations.

Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team.

Highly customer and delivery focused.

Strong time management and organisational skills

Awareness of Health and Hygiene work practises.

Adhere to the principles of Work, Health and Safety (WHS) and Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO).
