Full-Time Design & Production Operator

Our dedicated and experienced team of photographers, lab technicians and designers strive to deliver the highest quality photographic products to schools in a timely manner.

We are on the lookout for an energetic Design & Production Operator who can combine design and production responsibilities, ensuring that our products are manufactured to high quality standards. On a daily basis, you will be designing booklets and other print collateral, operating digital print machinery, monitoring production processes, providing customer service to a predominantly school customer base, and ultimately ensuring smooth and efficient workflow.

Training will be provided however here's a more detailed breakdown of the job duties:

Designing and modifying products: This can involve creating new product designs including photo booklets, photo wallets, flyers and other print collateral, refining existing designs, and adapting supplied designs for specific production needs. You will ideally be proficient with the Adobe Creative Suite i.e. InDesign, Photoshop. If you have experience with photo retouching and colour correction this would be a huge bonus.

Operating print package building software: Our booklet and photo wallet packages are built and generated using a program called dScope. If you have experience creating templates and/or learning new programs that combine data and images this would be a bonus. Our team use dScope to apply colour corrections to photos similar to features found in Photoshop which is a crucial element of the package building process.

Customer service: You will be required to liaise with our predominantly school customer base through email and phone contact to proof draft designs for approval and handle other general enquiries.

Collaborating with designers and lab technicians: You will work closely with a supportive team of designers and lab technicians to ensure that designs are ready for production and colours are optimised to ensure a quality finished product. We are looking for someone who can implement suggested improvements and communicate well with other team members whilst also working autonomously.

Operating print production machinery: This involves setting up, adjusting, and operating print machinery to produce products according to specifications, print finishing e.g. using a guillotine for trimming. We are looking for someone ideally with experience operating Ricoh digital print machinery (running on Fiery RIP software) with in-line booklet printing capabilities.

Production monitoring & maintenance: You will be confident observing and analysing the production flow, identifying any potential issues or bottlenecks. You will have experience diagnosing and fixing problems with digital print machinery e.g. colour calibration, clearing paper jams, minimising downtime and ensuring efficient operations. You will have experience performing quality checks on products during different stages of production to ensure they meet the required standards.

Record keeping: You will be required to keep our records database and shared workflow system up-to-date e.g. changes to contacts, updating job status etc.

Safety: They adhere to safety protocols and ensure a safe work environment.
