About the Opportunity
As part of the Park Lands, Policy and Sustainability Program, the Senior Heritage Advisor plays a central role in delivering the City of Adelaide?s Heritage Strategy. This includes managing the Heritage Incentives Scheme, assessing development applications, supporting heritage related policy initiatives, and providing expert heritage and conservation advice.
In this role, you'll work closely with owners of heritage-listed properties to guide conservation efforts, allocate funding, and help navigate development approvals. You?ll also offer specialist input on development applications and council-led projects, ensuring heritage considerations are embedded in urban planning decisions.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a heritage professional with strong architectural knowledge, conservation expertise, and a passion for Adelaide?s built character. Your work will directly support the preservation of the city?s heritage assets while helping shape a thoughtful, character-rich urban environment.
About You
To be successful in this role you will have:
- A tertiary qualification in Architecture and/or Heritage Conservation or related field and/or commensurate demonstrated experience in lieu of formal qualifications
- Knowledge of the local and national heritage legislation and South Australian planning legislation.
- Comprehensive architectural knowledge of traditional buildings and their cultural significance
- Extensive knowledge of the historical forces that molded the city and their impact on the physical character that occurred.
- Extensive knowledge of Adelaide?s construction vernaculars and the associated conservation techniques.
- A knowledge of the Australia ICOMOS Burra Charter.
- Knowledge and experience in project management underpin the timely delivery of strategies, projects and programs and assist in cross functional collaboration.
