About the Opportunity

As the Principal Economic Development Advisor, you?ll lead the development and implementation of economic policy and strategy for the City of Adelaide, using expert research, analysis, and data interpretation to drive informed decision-making. This high-impact role sits at the intersection of strategy, innovation, and economic insight?positioning you as a key advisor on matters that shape the city?s economic future and enhance its competitiveness, livability, and resilience.

You?ll be responsible for delivering detailed economic analyses?including cost-benefit assessments, economic modelling, and impact evaluations?to guide projects and policies across Council. Your work will inform long-term economic development strategies and contribute to initiatives that support innovation, business growth, and residential and commercial investment. You?ll play a leading role in interpreting state, national, and global economic trends to identify opportunities and challenges relevant to Adelaide?s future.

Collaboration is central to this role, as you?ll partner with the Adelaide Economic Development Agency, Corporate Services, and cross-council teams to provide strategic advice and maintain robust economic data frameworks. Your ability to deliver compelling reports and insights will influence Council decisions and ensure the city's economic planning remains forward-thinking and evidence-based.

About You

To be successful in this role you will have an understanding of:

  • Current and emerging policy directions of the Federal and State governments in relation to the economy and its impact on business, residential and investment growth.
  • Economic analysis methodologies including economic impact assessments, cost-benefit analyses, surveys, economic project evaluations and economic modelling.
  • The Capital City economy in the metropolitan, state and global context.
  • Key sectors of the City economy and contemporary issues such as international students, housing and events.

You will also have experience in:

  • Economic research and analysis and the provision of economic assessment and policy advice in relation to complex issues.
  • Developing strategic approaches to the delivery of economic growth outcomes and in developing and delivering economic models.
  • Formulation of integrated economic development policy and strategy.
  • Development and implementation of projects and programs in a timely and cost effective way.
