About the Role
We are seeking a Specialist Estimator to join our client Rio Tinto. In this role, you will be responsible for reviewing and developing capital and operating cost estimates that align with project lifecycle stages. Working with the engineering and estimation teams, this position plays a vital role in ensuring that cost estimates meet internal standards and inform strategic project decisions.
Key Responsibilities
Review scope, schedules, and submissions in the development of cost estimates
Ensure estimate structure meets Company quality and accuracy standards
Guide consultants in preparing capital cost estimates aligned with requirements
Summarise and explain key estimate variances to management
Review owner’s team and next-phase study estimates
Maintain and develop a dedicated Company cost database
Prepare in-house cost estimates when required
Analyse trends and lessons from internal and external projects
Consolidate and coordinate final estimate deliverables for evaluations
Support tender, claim, and supplementary estimate evaluations
Skills and Experience Required
Solid understanding of project management, construction, risk, and procurement
Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar role
Proficiency in preparing and defending cost estimates per AACE International standards
Strong analytical mindset to challenge assumptions and identify cost drivers
Skilled in preparing clear and detailed basis of estimate documents
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
