About the Role:
We are seeking a passionate and community-minded Chef to lead and support young people with disability as part of our inclusive Food Truck Program. This unique role combines culinary expertise with a supportive, capacity-building environment, working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team including occupational therapists, speech pathologists, exercise physiologists, and allied health assistants.
The successful candidate will play a key role in teaching kitchen and hospitality skills while fostering independence, social skills, and vocational experience for participants.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare and manage food truck operations including menu planning, food prep, cooking, and service.
Supervise and support young individuals with disability in a structured, inclusive kitchen and hospitality environment.
Provide hands-on coaching and mentoring in food safety, kitchen hygiene, customer service, and teamwork.
Collaborate with allied health professionals to implement therapy strategies within the food truck setting.
Drive a company vehicle or personal vehicle (kilometres reimbursed) to transport participants to and from the food truck site safely and punctually.
Maintain a positive and inclusive environment, ensuring all participants are engaged, supported, and progressing toward their individual goals.
Manage stock levels, food safety compliance, and cleanliness of the food truck in accordance with regulatory standards.
Requirements:
Qualifications or demonstrated experience as a Chef or Cook in a commercial kitchen.
Passion for working with individuals with disability and making a positive impact on their lives.
Current Australian Driver's Licence and willingness to drive company or personal vehicle (with travel reimbursed).
NDIS Worker Screening Check (or willing to obtain).
First Aid & CPR certification (or willing to obtain).
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
Flexibility, creativity, and patience in working with people of varying abilities.
Desirable:
Experience in disability support, youth work, or community services.
Understanding of the NDIS and capacity-building principles.
Food Safety Supervisor Certification.
Manual handling training.
