Synaco by Synergie are seeking an experienced and proactive WHS Advisor with a current Training and Assessors qualification (TAE40116 or equivalent) to support the project requirements of our client. This is a key role focused on promoting and maintaining a strong safety culture across the project while also supporting training and competency verification on site.

Our client, located in the Northern Territory, offers a lifestyle-friendly 7 days on, 7 days off FIFO roster. Chartered flights are provided from Darwin or Cairns, with interstate candidates responsible for their travel to one of these departure points. Onsite meals and accommodation are included. A site-specific pre-employment medical examination and drug and alcohol screening are required prior to mobilisation.

Working closely with project managers, supervisors, and field personnel, you will provide expert advice on work health and safety, facilitate risk assessments, and deliver safety-related training to ensure compliance with all legislative and project-specific requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Promote and maintain a safe and healthy work environment by adhering to company policies, procedures, and all relevant legislation, standards, and regulations—demonstrating safety leadership by example.
  • Ensure all personnel understand and comply with site-specific and regulatory safety requirements.
  • Provide expert advice on safety systems and best practice initiatives; lead the development of high-quality safety documentation and procedures.
  • Support contractors in identifying and managing risks through the development of risk registers, WRACs, JSAs, and other risk management tools.
  • Assist with the implementation and continuous improvement of the Safety Management Plan; regularly review for compliance and effectiveness.
  • Actively engage with the team to foster a positive safety culture and promptly address any safety concerns.
  • Collaborate with site Safety Representatives to share safety learnings, materials, and updates as required.
  • Facilitate Health and Safety Representative (HSR) meetings for the team and maintain the HSR improvement register.
  • Develop and deliver safety inductions and training sessions for personnel and contractors, ensuring awareness and understanding of procedures, regulations, and safe work practices.
  • Conduct regular audits and field inspections of safety systems and work practices to verify relevance and compliance across and contractor teams.
  • Manage safety-related administrative tasks, including compiling safety presentations, recording meeting minutes, maintaining training and licensing records, and updating safety performance data.
  • Lead incident investigations for the team and provide support to contractors during their investigation processes.

About You:

  • Minimum Cert IV in Work Health and Safety, Diploma preferred
  • TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (or equivalent) – essential
  • Proven experience in a WHS role within mining, construction, or heavy industry
  • Strong understanding of NT WHS legislation and mining compliance standards
  • Confident in conducting audits, inspections, and investigations
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a proactive approach
  • Ability to work in a remote, team-oriented environment
  • Previous experience on structural or shutdown projects highly regarded
