Battery Pollution Technologies is a pioneering battery technology startup developing next-generation processes for recovering critical metals—with a focus on cobalt and lithium—from complex end of life battery waste feedstocks. As we scale our operations, we're seeking an experienced Hydrometallurgy Process Engineer to join our team on a consulting basis, with the strong potential to transition into a full-time technical leadership role.

What You'll Be Doing:

Design and optimise hydrometallurgical flowsheets tailored for cobalt and lithium extraction from battery-related and unconventional sources. To this end we already have a core patent application with divisional patent technologies being investigated for refined and specific recovery applications

Oversee lab-scale testing and pilot process development including working with University partners and consulting laboratories

Review current process approaches for considered optimisation and refinement via methodologies including leaching, precipitation, and purification routes for target metals

Collaborate across disciplines to support scale-up, system integration, and process modelling

Contribute to IP development, including both internally and with various external partners.

What You’ll Bring:

Degree in Chemical, Metallurgical, or Process Engineering

5+ years of experience in hydrometallurgy, ideally with battery metal based extraction processes

Strong familiarity with leaching systems (acid, alkaline), selective precipitation, solvent extraction, and/or crystallisation

Experience using simulation tools (e.g. HSC Chemistry, METSIM) to model hydrometallurgical systems

A problem-solving mindset, hands-on technical approach, and adaptability to thrive in a fast-moving startup environment

An enjoyment of your work and a belief in the need for effective recycling approaches for end of life batteries.
