As the operators of Northside Boulders, Melbourne’s original bouldering gyms, we’re looking for a General Manager who understands our unique place in the climbing scene — both locally and nationally — and has a clear vision for what’s next.

Their goals should align with Northside’s mission: to be as inclusive as possible while promoting climbing as a diverse activity that brings people together and connects them to nature and adventure.

The General Manager is ultimately responsible for the day to day running of the gyms, and how the business grows over time. They’ll lead and motivate a diverse team, bring people together around shared goals, and ensure Northside remains a place where our customers and our staff love to be.

Role Summary

Leads the management team, making sure everyone is working well together

Moves easily between hands-on work, people stuff, and strategic decisions

Help staff stay on top of promotions, social media, and other ways we connect with customers

Community Engagement

Get to know our customers and build strong relationships across the gyms

Stay connected with the wider climbing scene and other businesses where it makes sense

Be a genuine and positive representative of what our business is all about

Must haves

Some experience as a supervisor or managing a team

Comfortable working with budgets, making spending decisions, and spotting ways to save

Experience in a service based environment, such as sport and recreation, hospitality, retail, events or others

Flexible schedule - ability to work early mornings, evenings and weekends

Nice to haves

Experience managing a medium or large team

Experience working in or around marketing - social media, communications, digital marketing, etc.

Understanding of the melbourne climbing scene (especially in Melbourne) or is keen to learn

A love of climbing will be highly regarded, but there’s no requirement to be an absolute crusher

We strongly encourage people from all backgrounds, identities, and experiences to apply. We believe climbing should be for everyone, and we're committed to building a team that reflects the diversity of the communities we’re part of. Even if you’re not sure you meet every requirement, we’d still love to hear from you.

This is intended to be a full time role, but we’re happy to discuss part-time or other flexible work options for the right person.

The remuneration package of the role includes 13.5% super and bonuses, alongside very flexible working arrangements.

If you would like to speak with someone at Northside about the position prior to applying, contact [email protected].

To apply, please include your resume, as well as a cover letter detailing your relevant experience and why you are excited by the role.
