The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking a General Manager to provide a critical role within Marngoneet Correctional Centre.

About the Business Unit

Marngoneet Correctional Centre and Karreenga Annex is a medium security facility that houses a mix of sentenced and remand men and is located 6km north-west of Lara, 20km from the centre of Geelong and about 70km from Melbourne. The role of the facility is to contain men in custody safely, securely and humanely, focusing on the individual needs of the men with the aim of providing a successful transition back into the community or on their continued journey through the custodial system. The facility has a strong focus on achieving positive outcomes and provides a range of engaged services. Our highly skilled workforce provides supervision and case management and are dedicated to enhancing opportunities to strengthen the pathways for men in custody.

About the Role

The General Manager is responsible for creating and sustaining a workforce culture built on solid values, professional excellence, and teamwork.

Reporting to the Assistant Commissioner, Custodial Operations, the General Manager leads and manages the delivery of all correctional services to achieve the safe custody, welfare, and rehabilitation of people in custody in accordance with the policies and standards set out by the Commissioner, Corrections Victoria in the Commissioners Requirements, Deputy Commissioner Instructions and Service Delivery Outcomes.

The General Manager is responsible for driving the facility towards achieving its vision and direction in line with the Corrections Act 1986 and the Corrections Regulations 2019, identifying and responding to emerging strategic issues and developing and implementing business plans. The General Manager leads all disciplines within the facilitystaffing complement to achieve business objectives and performance benchmarks within human resource and financial appropriations.

As the General Manager, Marngoneet Correctional Centre, some of your duties will include:

  • Leading by example and demonstrating in your day-to-day interactions each of the DJCS values and behaviours and be accountable for your actions.
  • Developing, implementing, and managing all aspects of the strategic and day-to-day operations, managing the security, safety, rehabilitative and infrastructure requirements, and deliverables of the facility.
  • Actively leading and managing the dynamic security foundation principles to promote a safe and secure custodial environment by influencing direction on a range of service processes and systems to support the compliance of established standards and mandated requirements.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Extensive experience managing people, directing, overseeing, and managing daily business activities and developing and implementing effective business strategies and programs.
  • The demonstrated ability to analyse the success of programs, strategies and initiatives including the ability to critically evaluate security and offender management issues.
  • Knowledge of the Corrections Act 1986 and Corrections Regulations 2019.
  • Computer literacy skills with a working knowledge of the full range of Microsoft Windows and MS Office application suite software.

Qualifications

  • A qualification in Business Management/Human Resource related discipline or commensurate experience to meet the key accountabilities relevant to this role is desirable.
  • A full and current Victorian driver's licence or a minimum P2 driver's licence.
