Full-time | Permanent | City of Nedlands
Help keep our infrastructure strong, our data smart, and our future plans on track.

Are you the type who loves turning data into decisions and maps into meaningful plans? Do you get a quiet thrill from a well-maintained asset register or a neatly prioritised capital works plan? If your answer is a proud “yes,” then we’d love to welcome you aboard as our next Assets Engineer!

We’re looking for someone with a strategic brain, a collaborative spirit, and a passion for sustainable infrastructure to help us manage the roads, footpaths, parks, buildings, and drainage systems that make the City of Nedlands tick.

What You’ll Be Doing

This is a big-picture-meets-fine-detail kind of role. On any given day, you might be:

  • Supporting the development of asset management plans that feed into long-term capital works planning.
  • Liaising with internal teams, residents, consultants, utilities, and government departments.
  • Supporting the wider team to ensure accuracy of the City’s asset register.
  • Assisting with valuations and helping shape how assets are depreciated and maintained over time.
  • Writing project charters and scoping capital works before they even break ground.
  • Conducting inspections and condition assessments to keep our knowledge sharp and our plans on point.
  • Developing and refining the City’s 10-year Capital Works Plan.
  • Crunching numbers, analysing asset sustainability ratios, and making sure our infrastructure future is fully funded and fully thought out.

What We’re Looking For

We’re after someone who blends analytical smarts with strategic thinking, and who enjoys working across teams and communities to bring great ideas to life.

Skills & Knowledge

  • A solid grounding in asset management principles (think: condition, risk, valuation, and lifecycle planning).
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills — you know how to translate “engineer speak” into something everyone gets.
  • Confidence with software tools like MS Excel, GIS, and asset management systems.
  • A good understanding of infrastructure construction, budgeting, and long-term planning.
  • Bonus points if you know your way around frameworks like the IIMM or the Department of Local Government’s Integrated Planning model.

Experience

  • Hands-on experience in civil infrastructure, asset management, or project delivery.
  • Proven ability to engage with stakeholders and keep complex projects moving forward.

Qualifications & Licences

  • A tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Eligibility for Chartered status with Engineers Australia (or well on your way).
  • Construction White Card.
  • ‘C’ Class Driver’s Licence.
  • A current National Police Clearance.

What We Offer

At the City of Nedlands, we know that people are our most valuable asset. In return for your talent and dedication, you’ll enjoy:

  • A Salary of $95,463 - $111,058 per annum, dependant on skills and experience
  • Five weeks of annual leave – because balance matters.
  • Paid parental leave – 12 weeks for primary carers, 2 weeks for partners.
  • Up to 13.5% superannuation – more for your future, with no fuss.
  • Flexible working arrangements – we understand that life happens outside of work.
  • Ongoing training and development – we’ll back you to grow.
  • Employee Assistance Program & Healthy Workplace Initiatives – your wellbeing matters.
  • Fitness Passport access – discounted wellness for you and your family.
  • Corporate discounts on private health insurance.
  • Novated leasing and salary sacrifice options – because smart financial choices should be easy.
