Help shape Australia’s national infrastructure for agriculture and make a tangible difference to research delivery, farmer livelihoods and global food security.
The University of Adelaide leads the Australian Plant Phenomics Network (APPN), a national research infrastructure initiative established through the Commonwealth’s National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS). APPN delivers cutting-edge imaging and data collection technologies for plant phenotyping, supporting research in controlled environments, field sites, and remote locations. The network consists of nine nodes strategically positioned across Australia’s diverse climate zones—spanning WA, SA, ACT, Victoria, NSW, and Queensland—and is hosted by eight leading universities and one state government department.
The APPN Marketing and Engagement Officer offers an opportunity to play a central role in building APPN’s business assessment, marketing and promotion in support of plant science, agricultural improvement and sustainability. The role will support key marketing and engagement processes including stakeholder management oversight, promotion campaign design and execution and the assessment of economic impacts of APPN projects and activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement and maintain an effective stakeholder relationship management system
- Support the implementation and maintenance of impact assessment systems for APPN
- Conduct historical studies to summarise and assess the impact of phenotyping in Australia and APPN, in particular
- Work with APPN nodes to collect information to develop impact case studies, to be published in various formats
- Support the Expert Working Group Chairs to develop systems and packages of product offers, including pricing and cost benefit statements
- Assist with the development of targeted promotional material for different stakeholder groups, and work with the communications team to engage such groups
- Organise external interactions such as trade displays and conference attendance on behalf of APPN
- Actively contribute ideas, information and content that support the strategic direction of APPN
About You
You're an organised and proactive professional, with passion and knowledge of the agricultural sector. You thrive in collaborative environments, supporting impactful, cutting-edge phenotyping facilities.
Selection Criteria
- Demonstrated experience in stakeholder management and/or commercial market potential assessment in agricultural/research environments.
- Demonstrated expert knowledge and at least four years’ experience in an agricultural business, commercial or research environment.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
- Demonstrated high-level organisational skills and the ability to strategically prioritise workloads and use sound judgement in decision-making.
- A demonstrated ability to take innovative approaches leading to process improvement and the achievement of strategic goals is required.
- Demonstrated ability to promote the organisational values of integrity, respect, collegiality, excellence and discovery, and a commitment to positively comply with the associated behaviour expectations.
Desirable
- Experience in SRM/CRM systems, such Microsoft Dynamics, Salesforce, Less Annoying CRM.
Qualifications:
A degree in either Agricultural Science or Agricultural Economics, or equivalent, with at least four years relevant work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and/or training, including broad experience in a scientific/research and/or industry environment(s).
