A NSW Government department is seeking a Communications and Marketing Officer to help deliver culturally inclusive communications and marketing strategies that support community engagement and promote Aboriginal-led programs and initiatives.

About the Role:

As a Communications and Marketing Officer, you will:

  • Support the rollout of communication and marketing activities that enhance visibility and engagement across programs, events, and initiatives.
  • Help create, publish, and distribute engaging content across digital platforms including social media, email, and websites.
  • Work closely with the Senior Communications and Marketing Officer to ensure communications are clear, consistent, and culturally appropriate.
  • Assist in the development and delivery of community engagement strategies that strengthen relationships with Aboriginal people and Communities.
  • Support events and campaigns from a communications perspective—ensuring messages are timely, inclusive, and aligned with key objectives.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders including Aboriginal communities, government agencies, and industry partners.

About You:

To succeed in this role, you will have:

  • Experience in communications, marketing, or digital media within a community, cultural, or government setting.
  • Strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to simplify complex or sensitive topics for a range of audiences.
  • A genuine commitment to working respectfully and effectively with Aboriginal communities.
  • Familiarity with managing and moderating social media channels.
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to juggle multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • A collaborative mindset with the confidence to engage with stakeholders across a broad range of sectors.

Key Challenges:

  • Translating complex and sensitive information into accessible, audience-appropriate content.
  • Navigating competing priorities and views to support consistent and effective messaging.
  • Responding quickly to emerging issues while managing multiple projects under tight timeframes.
