About the Role
As a Community-Based Oncology Registered Nurse, you will provide specialised nursing care to oncology and haematology patients receiving chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and infusion therapies for chronic conditions. Your role will involve autonomous practice, ensuring patient safety and wellbeing, while working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and other infusion therapies in home settings
- Perform comprehensive assessments, clinical monitoring, and ongoing care planning
- Provide support, education, and advocacy to patients and their families
- Manage Central Venous Access Devices (CVADs) and perform IV cannulations
- Maintain accurate electronic medical records and documentation
- Collaborate with treating oncologists, GPs, and allied health professionals
Essential Skills & Experience
- Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Authority (AHPRA) as a Registered Nurse
- Minimum 5 years post-registration nursing experience
- At least 2 years' experience in oncology/haematology nursing, including chemotherapy/immunotherapy administration, or infusion therapy for chronic conditions
- Proven clinical expertise in oncology nursing practices and procedures
- Competency in IV cannulation and CVAD management
- Strong communication skills-both verbal and written
- Excellent organisational and time management abilities
- High level of technical proficiency, including EMR systems and computer literacy
- Ability to work independently in the community and contribute as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Skilled in conflict resolution and problem-solving in clinical settings
- Understanding of the physical, emotional, and social impacts of cancer and chronic illness
Requirements
- Current Australian "C class" Driver's License
- Reliable vehicle suitable for community visits
- National Police Clearance Certificate
- Willingness to travel across the service area
