About the Position:
Are you passionate about creating greener, more sustainable urban environments? The City of Fremantle is seeking a dedicated Senior Urban Forest Officer to lead our Urban Forest team in delivering an exceptional urban forest program that enhances the beauty and liveability of our city.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to supervise and support a skilled team, ensuring that our urban forest initiatives meet the needs of our community while aligning with the City's strategic goals. With a well-resourced planting program and a strong focus on greening, you'll apply your comprehensive arboriculture expertise to develop and maintain the City of Fremantle's urban forest.

Skills and Experience:
You will use your experience to lead and manage the City’s tree programs, including planting, maintenance, pest and disease management, and overall tree health, ensuring alignment with Council policies, strategic plans, and statutory requirements.
You are a passionate and inspiring leader who mentors and supports the urban forest team, building their confidence, capability, and commitment to delivering service excellence.
You use your analytical skills to collect, maintain, and interpret tree audit data to inform strategic planning, guide service delivery, and drive continuous improvement across streetscapes and reserves.
You have a strong understanding of Australian arboricultural standards and industry best practices, and ensure all work is compliant with relevant regulations and guidelines.
You bring expertise in overseeing contracts and budgets, managing contractor performance, and engaging with the community to promote and enhance the City’s urban forest vision.
Requirements:
Diploma in Arboriculture (AHC50520) or equivalent, with significant experience in a similar role. Alternatively, if you have a Certificate III in Arboriculture (AHC30820 – essential) and are willing to obtain the Diploma qualification (AHC50520).
Demonstrated experience in communication, customer service, and team leadership
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant IT systems
Strong understanding of Australian arboricultural standards, OH&S principles, and risk management practices
Current WA 'C' class driver's license
Experience supervising large service contracts, short term contracts, and consultants
