Currently, there are around 4.3 million Australians with a disability. The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) implements the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), which is one of the biggest social reforms in the country since Medicare. As an Agency, we support more than 600,000 participants with a significant and permanent disability, and the families and carers of those living with disability. For many Australians, this will be the first time they receive the disability support they need. The NDIA is designed to enhance the quality of life and increase economic and social participation for people with disability and will mean a peace of mind for every Australian.

A new role awaits

The Service Design Delivery Branch are seeking proven project leaders with experience in delivering quality project outcomes, to join the NDIA as EL1 SDI Scrum Master.

We are seeking excellent communicators who have experience in managing project scope, timelines and general project coordination. You will have strong leaderships skills, helping to build and lead a productive environment where team members have accountability for the product. As a leader, you will model the APS and NDIA Values, making a positive contribution to the Branch culture.

The Service Design Delivery Branch is responsible for identifying opportunities to improve internal service delivery processes and systems. The branch works with Subject Matter Experts to create and implement solutions that simplify processes, improve timelines and the quality of outcomes for participants. The branch designs the elements that deliver the strategic vision of the NDIS Pathway and works to improve the consistency and equity of NDIA decisions and ensures the Scheme is aligned with insurance principles for future sustainability.

The EL1 Scrum Master will coordinate and assume responsibility to undertake detailed or sensitive projects that may include performing varied activities involving many different and unrelated processes or methods that may impact on the strategic or operational outcomes that support the NDIA’s objectives to “build a world-leading National Disability Insurance Scheme”.

The position is responsible for actively managing key internal and external stakeholder relationships and where required, will represent and negotiate on behalf of the NDIA to advance the NDIA’s interests across a range of forums.

Responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to:

  • Managing project scope and timeline including forward plan.
  • Working in line with the agency’s project management methodology in supporting the design of the feature and for forward view of design dates etc.
  • Monitor the team's progress across projects/features, address risks, issues, and actions, and maintain the RAID log using standard branch templates and tools.
  • Coordinating sprints and retrospective meetings which review the project status and daily scrum stand-ups.
  • Coaching team members in agile and waterfall frameworks and scrum/project practices and guiding development teams to higher project maturity.
  • Working with product and Domain owners to develop and handle product backlogs and new requests.

Our ideal will be able to demonstrate previous experience in the development and implementation of continuous improvement strategies resulting in real, measurable improvements to the organisation that enhance outcomes for our participants. You will be experienced in managing the governance of projects against frameworks and be flexible in undertaking duties to support the squad. You will be confident in overseeing and coordinating sprints and retrospective meetings and have experience working in line with Agile/Waterfall project approach. Your experience and sound leadership skills will inspire team members to strive for the best outcomes through your clear and proactive work planning.

This role can be performed from any NDIA office location. We intend to fill this role in an ongoing capacity, however non-ongoing roles up to 12 months with the possibility of extension up to 2 years may be offered.

Successful candidates will be required to undergo a pre-employment National Police History check, Worker Screening check and/or Working with Children Check (where required) and provide evidence of Australian Citizenship.
