Posted 29 days ago
At Young Mindz, we’re passionate about empowering Australians with disabilities to live fulfilling, independent lives. As a nationwide NDIS provider, we deliver top-tier services like Supported Independent Living (SIL), disability support work, and short-term accommodation. Our goal is to provide personalised support to help individuals thrive emotionally, psychologically, and socially, with a focus on mindfulness, self-care, and community participation.
We’re looking for an enthusiastic and compassionate SIL House Leader who will make a real difference in the lives of our participants. This role is based in Ringwood which is about 25kms east of Melboune CBD. In this role, you will work a week-on, week-off roster. You will also receive $150 food allowance for the week you are rostered on.
In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to help individuals unlock their full potential by fostering emotional growth, confidence, and independence in a safe, nurturing environment.
Due to the participant’s personal care and support needs, this role is only open to female applicants only.
About the role
As a SIL House Leader, you will deliver Supported Independent Living (SIL) services to assist individuals with disabilities in managing their daily living tasks, such as personal care, meal preparation, and routine building. Key accountabilities:
- Support participants with daily living tasks
- Assist with personal care and hygiene
- Prepare nutritious meals
- Help build and maintain routines
- Encourage community participation
- Support the development of independent living skills
The roster:
You will work on a rotating schedule of:
- 1 week on (Sunday to Sunday), providing SIL support for periods during the day and stay overnight for sleepover shifts in the SIL house for 7 consecutive nights.
- 1 week rostered off to rest and recharge.
Please note: the participant is often awake late into the night—sometimes past 1am—so we’re looking for someone patient, understanding, and flexible with late nights.
What we are looking for
- Demonstrated experience, two years in delivering personal care and domestic support services to people with disability, for people with complex and behavioural care needs in a home or supported living environment.
- Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability, Aged Care, or Home and Community Care) or an equivalent qualification relevant to the delivery of personal and home care services (preferred).
- Proven ability to work independently and with minimal supervision, while maintaining high standards of care, safety, and professionalism.
- Experience in assisting with medication administration in line with positive behaviour support, care plans and organisational procedures.
- Familiarity with behaviour support practices and the ability to implement behaviour support strategies.
- Experience in preparing nutritious meals and managing food safety and hygiene in a home environment.
- Confidence in documenting care activities, completing shift notes, and reporting changes or incidents accurately and on time.
- Previous experience working within a person-centred and trauma-informed care framework.
- Experience responding to challenging behaviours and using de-escalation techniques to maintain a calm and safe environment.
- Comfort and competence in providing emotional support, promoting social engagement, and maintaining respectful relationships with participants.
- Experience supporting community access, transport, and participation in leisure and recreational activities.
- Strong leadership skills and the ability to inspire others
